Every family has had Lego toys scattered about on the floor. They are a staple of childhood, but like so many childhood toys , some adults just can’t get enough of them. For a look at Who’s Who in Lego creations, Tech E Blog has collected the 10 most impressive Lego creations.

Above we have the Lego translation of Volvo, part of Volvo’s collaboration with Legoland in the promotion of family values and driving safety.

“The Volvo XC90 made of LEGO bricks was built by LEGO Master Model Builders, members of an elite team of talented artists who design, create and maintain the thousands of LEGO brick models at LEGOLAND California. Constructed at the U.S. headquarters for LEGO Systems, Inc. in Enfield, Conn., the Master Builders began production of the Volvo XC90 in January 2004. Noted as one of the top-three most gratifying projects of its kind for the Master Builders, the intricate stages of assembly were captured with time-lapse photography.”

Another piece of Lego genius is the “difference engine.”

“Nineteenth-century computer pioneer Charles Babbage is taken back—via Lego. Andy Carroll, an apparently highly-skilled Lego builder and mathematician, created this functional mechanical computer, modeled after Charles Babbage s Difference Engine, which was a precursor to modern-day computers.

Amazingly enough, this machine is able to solve mathematical problems known as second- and third-order polynomials, and is able to calculate those to three or four digits.”
