Peer Networking and Being Ready for Opportunity

Peer networking inevitably delivers up the intriguing job prospect that has, seemingly, a great deal of risk to it. Good opportunities do not stay on the table for very long. Faced with such a prospect, one has to be able to weigh the pluses and negatives and make a decision with some alacrity. For many, making those critical decisions induces paralysis. Because those decisions portend the threatening prospect of change, which, for many, puts them very much out of the comfort zone.

“Sometimes we face tough decisions that involve one or more unknowns. We can’t know in advance what the consequences of each alternative will be. This is especially true of big decisions like quitting a job, entering or exiting a relationship, or moving to a new city.

In a way every decision involves a choice between maintaining the status quo vs. making a change. When we can’t be certain a change will work out for the better, by default we stay put.

Personal growth expert,Steve Pavlina, offers an unusual deliberative process that centers on determining if the issue under scrutiny truly reflects ‘who you are.’

“For each alternative you’re considering, ask yourself, “Is this really me?”

What you’re asking is whether each path is a fair expression of who you truly are. To what degree does each option reflect the real you?”
